WHAT IS TRAIL RAISERS?
Trail Raisers is the volunteer leadership based portion of the Green Steps Chattanooga program. Trail Raisers serves to establish, train and provide support for community Litter Leaders, individuals who are committed to leading anti-litter volunteer events and services within their local areas and others who are equally committed to being involved in the program. The intent is to establish a Trail Raisers presence throughout the 12-county Green Steps region.
Counties include: Hamilton, Bradley, Sequatchie, Marion, Rhea, Meigs, Bledsoe, Grundy, McMinn, Polk, Monroe, and Loudon.
HOW DO I BECOME A LITTER LEADER, AND WHAT’S INVOLVED?
A Litter Leader is a community member who has the desire, drive and capacity to build volunteer groups, schedule and lead clean-up events, and additional outreach events. Duties would include:
-Develop volunteer groups for our various Trail Raiser levels
-Delegate service station volunteers and oversee maintenance schedule (emptying cans, re-stocking trash bags)
-Fund raise for Litter Stations
-Lead clean-up quarterly clean-up events in areas of high priority
-Lead Litter Challenges (optional)- a pop-up style event that can take place anywhere throughout the region (farmers markets, trailheads, events, ect..). The litter leader has a table set up to inform passers by of the cleanup. Incentives include gift cards, prizes, etc.
-Outreach/education (optional) at local schools, events, businesses, churches ect..
TRAIL RAISER REWARD SYSTEM & BADGES
There are multiple volunteer levels and rewards for Trail Raisers involvement. All levels receive a T-shirt and an introductory badge
Litter Leader - receives a monthly gift card, goodies and acknowledgement. Badge: Possum with torch holding.
Litter Legend - has participated in 5+ cleanups OR has brought an additional 5 people. Badge: Catfish.
Litter Champion - has participated in 10+ cleanups OR has brought an additional 10 people. Badge: Buzzard.
Litter Station captain- Those who service litter stations. Receives monthly gift card, goodies and acknowledgement. Badge:Raccoon driving train, cars filled with trash.
Litter Lions- Kids or students who are apart of an educational outreach event or our cleanups. Badge: Mountain Lion.
Trash Talkers- Volunteers who teach children and adults about litter reduction and prevention. Badge: Coyotes.
